THE riverside town of Ogbotobo in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, was thrown into confusion on Wednesday when a 15-year-old boy accidentally shot dead his uncle with his grandfather’s hunting gun.
It was learned that the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of the day as the boy was playing with the rifle.
A community source said the boy was in the habit of playing with his grandfather’s hunting gun “whenever the old man is not around not knowing it was loaded that fateful day.
“The boy’s grandfather, a hunter, was said to have loaded his gun that fateful Wednesday at 3 a.m., when he heard strange movement and noise near their camp. He went out to check but found nothing.
“Upon his return to the house, he forgot to remove the cartridge from the hunting gun he had earlier loaded before he placed it in its position.
“However, the grandson took the gun from where it was kept that morning and was playing with it when he mistakenly pressed the trigger and the bullet hit his uncle, killing him on the spot.”
The boy, it was learned, was immediately apprehended by the community folks and handed over to the police.
Contacted, spokesman of the state police command, Musa Mohammed, said: “Yes, I heard of the incident but I am yet to get details from the police division at Ekeremor.”
