A Presidential aspirant of African Action Congress (AAC), Dr Caro Nwosu, has vowed to tackle the issues of hunger head-on when elected as the president of the country come 2023.
Nwosu told newsmen on Monday that as the president she would end the negative experience of some Nigerians going to bed hungry.
She said that her “Hunger Free National Programme” would be sustained by a robust and youth-friendly agricultural scheme throughout the 774 local government areas in the country.
According to her, a robust, youth-friendly and result-oriented agricultural scheme that all will participate in and make food abundant will further push down the current food prices and make them affordable for the poorest of the poor.
Nwosu, who for now is the only female presidential aspirant from the South-East, noted that she would make agriculture attractive to the youths that it would become the most sought for job.
“I will encourage the youths with soft loan facilities, ensure that all genuine farmers get quality inputs such as fertilizers, improved seedlings, weedicide and agriculture extension services free.
“While for those ready to go further, my government will assist them to get extensive virgin land from communities.
“We will have a partnership with major tractor manufacturing companies to have their plants in the country and provide relatively cheap tractor hiring services for those that want to be big time farmers and make it big as well,” she said.
She noted that with active engagement of most youths in agriculture, which they would see a lot of positive potential in, the issue of crime would be reduced to the barest minimum.
“One of the effective ways of solving crime is to keep the active population, who are youths, highly engaged in what they believe will work for them and give them the wealth of their dreams.
“I sincerely believe that with effective youths’ engagement the few remaining dissidents can be easily and effectively managed by the security agencies.
“With this, cattle rustling, kidnapping, armed banditry, boko haram, yahoo-yahoo and yahoo-plus, cultism and youths restiveness will be a thing of the past in the country.
“The major sources of all these social vices are idleness and hunger. As anyone hungry will be angry with the system and everyone at the same time,” she said.
Nwosu said that her administration would encourage science and innovation as well as people with special talent/ability to invent and fabricate machines and (software) programmes that would aid societal growth.
“I will also encourage micro and small businesses, while ensuring a conducive environment for them to strive, stabilise and grow to medium and big companies in Nigeria,” she said.
