The Executive Secretary of the Delta State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Comrade Michael Akpobire has urged the people of Isoko North and Deltans in general to key into the technical education revolution in the state by encouraging their wards to enrol in the newly revamped technical schools.Akpobire stated this on Wednesday when he led the management team of the Board to an advocacy visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty, Othuke Murphy Urugbeze Ogwara I, Ovie of Ellu Kingdom and Ofagbe community.

Comrade Akpobire said the Board was in Isoko to sensitise indigenes to maximally utilise the facilities available at the Technical College Ofagbe and the Vocational centre at Ozoro.

The Executive Secretary expressed shock at the low enrolment at the training facilities despite the huge funds invested by the Delta State Government. “It is disappointing that despite the huge funds invested in the Technical colleges, we still have low enrolment.

It is therefore imperative that all hands must be on deck to canvas for students for the technical schools. “The State Government has kept faith by revamping the technical schools, it is now our responsibility as a people to encourage our children and wards to enrol in these schools to acquire relevant skills. “Attending technical school is better for our children because apart from teaching relevant subjects taught in the conventional secondary schools, the technical schools also teaches the acquisition of relevant skills,” he said.

Responding, the Ovie of Ellu Kingdom, thanked the board for bringing the prosperity message to his community and called on his subjects to key into the programme of acquiring skills from Ofagbe Technical College as the era of white collar job is over considering the rising rate of unemployment in the country.

The President General of Isoko Development Union (IDU), High Chief Iduh Amadhe, stressed that the Isoko nation will abolish “Osè Osè (Begging) Syndrome with the tool of Technical and Vocational Education”. Adding that the embarrassing beggarly trend of able bodied men and women in Isoko land will only be reversed when these young men plung themselves into the acquisition of relevant skills. “These skills when harnessed would in turn empower them to be viable for gainful employments and make them entrepreneurs.” He added.

In a related development, the President General of Ofagbe community, Hon Matthew Akpofa has assured the Board of the community’s support to enable indigenes of Ofagbe, Isoko and Deltans in general towards enrolling and utilizing the facilities on ground at Ofagbe Technical College and environs. The Pioneer Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emmanuel Okoro in a vote of thanks, appreciated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for revamping the Ofagbe Technical College.
