The Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun, has foiled a robbery attack on some travellers along Ilesa-Akure Expressway.
The travellers were said to be in an 18-passenger bus when the hoodlums attacked them and made efforts to dispossess them of their belongs before the men of the Amotekun Corps appeared and foiled the attack.
The Chairman of the South-West Amotekun Commanders and Ondo State Amotekun Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, who disclosed the development, said the robbers escaped after engaging the Amotekun Corps in a gun duel.
He said the Amotekun operatives were attracted to the scene by sporadic gunshots fired into the air by the robbers. He added that the corps also recovered some goods worth millions of naira at the scene.
He said, “We got information of the operation that passengers travelling from Lagos were being robbed by armed robbers. When we got there, the driver of the J5 Bus was nowhere to be found.
”The robbers abandoned the bus and ran into the forest. We had to start combing the bush after rescuing the passengers. We checked till the following day before he (driver) was found five miles away from the location of the robbery attack.

“At the end of the day, we were able to retrieve the hijacked goods. On our way back, we found another set of people in an 18-seater bus and also rescued them from another set of armed robbers. We have contacted the owner of the goods and in no time, his goods would be sent back to him in Kano State.
“This is part of Phase 7 of Operation Cleanup.”
The commander also declared that the corps would continue to ensure that crimes are tackled to a bearest minimum in Ondo State and other South-West states.
