ANAMBRA GUBER: 13 parties conclude primaries, name candidates

AS the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s deadline for the conduct of governorship primaries expired on Thursday July 1, 13 of the 18 registered political parties have carried out the exercise in Anambra State.

Parties that have chosen candidates at press time include All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA; Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; All Progressives Congress, APC; African Democratic Congress, ADC; African Democratic Party, ADP; Accord, A; Action Alliance, AA; Social Democratic Party, SDP; Young Pprogressive Party, YPP; Zenith Labour Party, ZLP; Labour Party, LP; Action Peoples Party, APP; and Peoples redemption Party, PRP.

The five parties that were yet to choose their candidates at press time are African Action Congress, AAC; Allied Peoples Movement, APM; New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP; National Rescue Movement, NRM; and Boot Party, BT.

Of the 13 parties, the ruling APGA has three candidates while the due of PDP and AA have two candidates each.

The three men laying claim to APGA’s ticket on account of factionalisation are Professor Chukwuma Soludu of the INEC-recognised Chief Victor Ike-Oye APGA; Imo-State born factional national chairman, Chief Ejejie Njoku, who is citing order as well as a member of the House of Representatives, Chukwuma Umeoji, who emerged at a primary backed by court order.

For the PDP, the two candidates are Chief Valentine Ozigbo, who emerged from the primary endorsed by the by the National Working Committee, NWC, held at Women Development Centre, Awka; and Dr Ugochukwu Uba, who won the parallel primary held at Paul’s University, Awka.

Ugochukwu Uba insists his faction of PDP is backed by court order.

In the same token, the candidates of AA are Mr John Ikeotuonye and Mrs. Ifeoma Madukwa.

The parties have up till July 9 to send their nominated candidates to the INEC.

* Chief Uche Ugwoji – ZLP

* Mr. John Ikeotuonye/ Ifeoma Madukwa – AA

* Alex Nwankwo – Accord Party

* Dr. Nnamdi Nwanwuo – PRP
