Army Embarks on Monthly Route Match in Enugu

The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army conducted a 15 kilometres route march in Enugu city in the early hours of Friday.

The exercise which started by 6 am and ended by 08: 30 am took off from Abakpa Cantonment through major streets in the Metropolis and back to Abakpa Cantonment.

It should be recalled that the Nigerian Army (NA) routine monthly route march is an exercise that was introduced by the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai.

The major objective of the exercise is to ensure that Nigerian Army personnel keep fit and are physically and mentally sound to enable them effectively face the contemporary and emerging security challenges facing the nation.

The route march has been fully institutionalized and is now a scheduled Nigerian Army physical training exercise that all formations and units are expected to conduct at the end of every month.

The routine match coincided with the official commencement of Exercise Atilogwu Udo 1 taking place in the five eastern states and Cross Rivers.

About 240 soldiers and officers as well as serving Corp members of the Division participated in the exercise.

They were joined by other sister security agencies including Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Nigerian Immigration Service.
