Arts can boost Nigeria’s economy – Curator

ENUGU-THE Curator, National Gallery of Arts, Enugu, Mrs Patricia Nkwocha has stressed the need for Nigerians to focus more on Arts as against over dependence on oil to help boost the nation’s economy.

Nkwocha who disclosed this at the maiden edition of Art Exhibition and Jazz Night organized by Fusion Ijay Creations Nigeria Limited and held at the Universal Hotel Enugu, on Saturday, stated that art work would attract foreign exchange to the country if given attention.

Nkwocha said, “We all depend on oil forgetting that oil will dry up someday while Arts remains because it’s inborn, it keeps improving and gets better each day and art works are sold for millions of naira across the globe”.

Nkwocha also stated that “events like this bring artists together to show their works, and learn from one another. people should encourage artist to do more for the welfare of the nation”.

Speaking at the event, a renowned artist, aesthetic designer and owner of Bona Gallery, Enugu, Bona Ezeudu, emphasized the need for people to encourage artist as arts encompasses a lot of things other than sculptures and paintings.

“Arts embrace a lot of things like poetry, music, spoken words, fashion and interior decorations. The list goes on and on. An artist knows a lot of things because it’s all about creativity and should not be neglected”, Ezeudu disclosed.

Ezeudu further urged young artists not to be money conscious but should rather improve on their works consistently to help widen their horizon and increase their opportunities.

The Organizer and CEO of Fusion Ijay Creations Nigeria Limited, Ijeoma Eze asserted that she is a lover of Arts and it’s high time artists are given support.

“I can’t sing, dance or draw but I am an event planner who loves everything about Arts. This is my own way of supporting them because I plan on doing this annually and I am also calling on others to do the same for the growth of the nation”, Eze said.

One of the exhibitors Emmanuella Anyaocha expressed her profound gratitude to the organizers and pointed out that exhibitions like this have given them the opportunities to learn and improve on their works.
