Again, bandits late Saturday night abducted two students of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State.

The two students, according to an eyewitness account, were male and female and were abducted in their off-campus hostel in Sabon Garin Damba area of Gusau, a few kilometres away from the university’s permanent site around 9pm.

The eyewitness claimed several gunshots were fired by the security personnel aimed at scaring away the bandits but they (bandits) succeeded in taking away the two students.

According to residents, the bandits attacked the community shortly after 8 pm, firing their weapons indiscriminately to intimidate the residents. Security personnel responded by firing numerous shots in an attempt to repel the attackers, but the bandits managed to abduct the two students.

Another resident, who requested anonymity for security concerns, while speaking to Channels TV, mentioned that a joint team of police and military forces was on the pursuit of the bandits.

Efforts to speak with the spokesperson for the state police command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, failed as he could not pick up the phone calls.
