The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has praised the European Union for its support for Nigeria and her interests.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari said this at State House, Abuja, while receiving in a farewell audience, the Ambassador/Head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ketil Karlsen.

He said the European Union has been of help to Nigeria in diverse ways, including humanitarian and trade relations; noting that the EU remains the largest trading partner with Nigeria, while members of the Union have remained Nigeria’s largest investors.

In a thank-you address, the President appreciated the outgoing Ambassador for facilitating the visits of French and German leaders during his tour of duty; acknowledging that it was Prime Minister Angela Merkel’s visit that opened the opportunity for a relationship with Siemens of Germany on power.

Karlsen equally thanked Buhari for the “excellent collaboration” he enjoyed throughout the four years he spent in Nigeria.

He added that the collaboration touched several frontiers including trade, humanitarian assistance, military, to mention but a few.
