The Enugu State Coalition of Gender Based Violence prevention service providers has reiterated determination to sustain its mandate on stemming the tide of gender based violence GBV, in the state.
This was the general consensus at a Gender Based Violence Prevention recognition Award held at the Parliament Hall, Post Primary Schools Management Board, in collaboration with the state ministry of Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development.
Speaking at the event, Wife of Enugu state Governor, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah represented by Dr. Uzoamaka Okenwa and the Commissioner of Children and gender Affairs, Mrs Ngozi Enih, who was represented by Mrs Ngozi Ezeh, permanent secretary of the Ministry stressed the need for more support and collaboration among relevant stakeholders to sustain the fight against GBV-related issues.
Earlier in her opening remarks, the Executive Director, Global Initiative for Development, Care of Women and Youth, GIDCOWAY, Ngozi Eboh, who outlined the success story of the coalition, acknowledged the efforts of the Enugu state Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, the state Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Ngozi Enih, security agencies, private business owners, as well as well-meaning organizations for their unwavering support towards the fight against gender-based violence.
She said the coalition has continued to promote a coordinated survivors centered approach that enhances, support and strengthen advocacy efforts, ensuring women voices and experiences are integral to peace and security initiatives.
Several signatories including, the wife of the Enugu state governor, Nkechinyere Mbah, Nkanu East Local Government Chairman, Sydney Okechuku, the Enugu state House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Gender, Jane Eneh, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, administration, Enugu State Command, Hope Isiani among others were honoured at the event for their invaluable role in the fight against gender-based violence.
Some of the awardees who spoke at the event, thanked the organisers for the gesture adding that, such recognition will inspire them to continue the fight against gender based violence and related issues.
