CORONATION: Igwe Dr. Aneke ascends throne as Okwuluoha IV of Udi Ancient Kingdom

A retired Customs Officer , Dr. Sam Aneke has been coronated as Okwuluoha IV of Udi Ancient Kingdom.
This follows his emergence as the traditional ruler of the community after a unanimous and overwhelming support from the community in an Igweship election held on the 7th of February 2023.
Igwe Dr. Aneke who was until his ascension to the throne, a traditional Prime Minister was elected the Igwe after several entreaties by members of the community for him to take over the throne after the death of Igwe Chris Ogakwu.
Shortly after he was administered oath of office and allegiance at Eke-Udi square, Igwe Dr Aneke, conferred titles on his wife as Ugobeze as well as on Ndi Abogu and Ndi Omenani before he and his cabinet proceeded to St. Mary’s Pro- Cathedral for Holy Mass.
Delivering a homily, the Auxiliary Bishop of Enugu Catholic Diocese, Bishop Ernest Obodo said, there is no better time than now in the history of the country to have qualified, credible, competent and capable people in the leadership of various sectors in Nigeria.
According to him, the traditional ruler of a town is the most strategic point of authority who is nearest to the people and understands their problems.
He described as an aberration on the part of the colonial masters by not vesting direct political authority on traditional rulers, which he said is an error that  must be corrected. He described the new traditional ruler as fit and capable to lead the people of Udi kingdom considering his exploits as a customs officer who served the country meritoriously until his retirement.
Bishop Obodo expressed confidence in the ability of Igwe Dr. Aneke to reposition Udi to be among comity of communities in the southeast.
He called on members of the community including the cabinet to support the Igwe to bring prosperity and development to Udi community.
In a welcome address during the coronation ceremony, the President General, Udi Progressive Union, UPU, Dr. Chinedu Onyia said the event will remain remarkable in the history of Udi  as it is the first time since the inception of Monarchy in Udi ancient kingdom that the people unanimously resolved on a singular candidacy for the exalted stool of Okwuluoha of Udi kingdom. Dr Onyia maintained that the Igweship selection/election process of February 7, 2023, will go down in history as the most peaceful Udi kingdom has ever had, and expressed gratitude to the people for their understanding and solidarity.
He pledged the people’s continued loyalty to the king for the overall growth and development of the community.
 Igwe Dr. Sam Aneke  later conferred prestigious chieftaincy titles on 47 eminent sons and daughters in and outside the community, including the chancellor, St. Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State, Professor Gregory Ibe.
The confinement of chieftaincy titles was part of his official functions after his coronation as traditional ruler of Udi  Ancient Kingdom, which took place at Eke-Udi Square on Saturday.

GREGORY IBE, Valentine C. J. Mbah, Dr. Mrs Dibueze Uchenna Winifred Onwuli, Mrs. Ngozi F. Ifebigh, ERNEST NNABUIKE CHIMEUDE, CHIEF ANDY C. EGBO, Owelle Linus Chuka Ene (Owelle), CHIEF LESLIE.C. SUNDAY ONYIA EBIYI, CHIME IFEANYICHUKWU CHRISTOPHER, Eneoli Benjamin Ogomegbunam, SIR DAN NWOSU, Barr. Tony Okwudili Eneoli, Chinedu Michael Nwadigwe, John Ikechukwu Onyiba,  CHIEF (MRS) AMOGE E. The newly coronated traditional ruler, who was visibly elated appreciated the people for finding him worthy and promised to walk towards the development of the community. He also promised to collaborate with the state government and illustrious sons and daughters from Udi to ensure empowerment of the youths of the community to reduce insecurity.
The retired customs officer promised to serve the community with all his heart and ensure peaceful co-existence among the people.
Igwe Dr. Aneke disclosed that those conferred with chieftaincy titles were carefully selected and screened by the Joint Council adding that by their confinement, they will automatically become honorary members of his cabinet.
Prominent sons and daughters of the community including the former governor of Enugu State , Sullivan Chime attended the event.
