COVID 19: Churches in Enugu reopen Sunday

The Enugu State government has lifted the ban on worship places in the state and approves commencement of worship on Sunday May 10, 2020.

This is sequel to agreement reached with the leadership of the Church in the state on the resumption of public worship.

A statement signed by the Chairman, Christian Council of Nigeria, Archbishop Christopher Edeh revealed various agreements with the state government. ‘

The state is titled “Update On The Meeting Of The Church Leaders With The Governor Of Enugu State On The Resumption OF WORSHIP IN ALL CHURCHES IN THE STATE

And reads as follows;

”All member churches of the CCN ENUGU state are hereby notified that we have reached the following agreements with the Government of Enugu State on the resumption of public worship with effect from Sunday May 10th 2020.

“Public worship will begin on the Sunday first above written with strict observance of the rules of the NCDC on public gathering.

That is to say:

“Observance of social distancing with not more than 20 persons meeting in a hall at a given time.

“Rules of hygiene such as washing of hands, use of hand sanitizers and face masks by worshippers.

“Churches should make each service short and ensure that members are sensitised during the period of preaching on how to protect themselves from the virus.

“No church is permitted to exceed 12 noon on the Sunday.

“ You are at liberty to hold many sessions of worship within the specified time.

“Religious activities involving large congregation as specified above is only permissible on Sunday and no other day of the week.

“We shall continue periodic review of the situation with the governor to do what is best for the safety of the people at each time.

“Ministers and pastors are to take personal responsibility to make sure the rules are obeyed.  Any escalation of this virus may lead to another complete  lockdown.. Let us all cooperate and keep our people safe.
