Members of the Enugu State Vigilante Group have reportedly killed a 15-year-old boy in Nkpologwu community in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state.

The alleged killing was reported to have sparked a violent demonstrations on Thursday, leading to the burning of several houses and destruction of properties in the community.

Sources said that trouble had started when the vigilante stormed the residence of the deceased identified as Chukwuka, on Wednesday night, for arrest.

The victim (deceased) allegedly resisted arrest and in the process, one of the vigilante shot him in the waist which led to his death on Thursday.

An eyewitness, who gave his name as Ifeanyi, said the death of the boy angered the youths that went on rampage, burning down houses belonging to the members of the vigilante group.

“We’re currently living in fear because we don’t know what will happen next and we’re helpless.

“As I speak with you now, the house of the Chief Security Officer, CSO of our local government, Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu, has been completely burnt down.

“The house of a businessman, Anthony Ani, was torched and this arson is spreading by the day. We call on relevant authorities to rise up and save our agrarian community before the situation goes out of hand completely.”

Meanwhile, efforts to get the reaction of the police on the incident on Friday were unsuccessful as the Command’s spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, didn’t answer his calls. He also didn’t react to a text message sent to him.
