The Chairman, House Committee on Power & Energy and Member representing Isoko South Constituency II in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon (Prince) Johnson Erijo has expressed optimism on stable power supply with a view to tackling epileptic power supply in the state.
Erijo told journalists in his office at Asaba on Wednesday that improved power supply will boost the economy and attract domestic and foreign investment thereby increasing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary , Silver Onuje Egwese, Erijo said the Committee on Power & Energy had its inaugural meeting yesterday (Tuesday) and disclosed that arrangement was being made to meet with the Ministry of Power & Energy in order to have a comprehensive briefing to enable them identify some of the defects in the sector and chart the way forward.
“You know this is a reconstituted committee and we have just been appointed to serve in this capacity. We had our inaugural meeting yesterday and I’m glad to inform that it was successful. We are looking forward to meeting the concerned Ministry and BEDC officials for proper briefing to ascertain the situation of power supply in the state.
“For weeks now the power supply has improved tremendously and much is needed to be done to sustain the current situation. I can assure you that we will use the instrumentality of oversight functions to serve in the best interest of the state”, Erijo maintained.
Speaking on IPP project, Erijo assured that the state government was committed to the commencement of the Independent Power Plant (IPP) with a view to generate about 128 megawatts of power if completed. With this reawakening hope the state would have steady power supply, he said.
