The Delta State Technical and Vocational Education Board is partnering with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to commercialise skills acquired by trainees in Delta State.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Comrade Michael Akpobire stated this on Monday,hile declaring open, a three-weeks training on commercialization of skills of trainees at the Delta Technical and Vocational Centre (Asaba Centre).
Comrade Akpobire, commended the CBN for partnering Delta State Government towards skills commercialization and Youth Entrepreneurship Development programme of trainees to live a fulfilled life.
He called on all trainees to remain focused during the period of training, adding that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has graciously paid the statutory fees for the first tranche of 1000 trainees as scholarship and called on trainees not to take this rare opportunity for granted.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria is giving out loans of a single digit to trainees, but how to access it is a major challenge in our society today because loans are tied to stringent conditions. The certificate to be issued out after this training and a sellable business plan is one of the keys towards securing loan from CBN without stress.” He said.
In a remark, the CBN South-South Representative on Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Mr Emeka Nnamani, appreciated the visionary leadership, effort and persistence of Delta State Government towards making the exercise a reality and towards Job creation.
He also noted that the training is not only for the benefit of the trainees, Delta State, in general, putting into consideration of the multiplier effect. “CBN Entrepreneurship is not just bringing skills, but how to commercialise skills with the requisite market forces and come out successful. For you to be certified in the programme, you must develop what is called a business model and a business plan, it is compulsory that every trainee will have a business plan at the end of the programme because a man or woman that cannot put up a business plan for his or her business cannot run a business”. The first empowerment during the training is “MENTAL EMPOWERMENT” because a man that is mentally empowered will know what to do with money when he receives it. “Outside the trainee, the centre will also support trainees in accessing market for their products. Trainees will further have access to the centre for 18 months for free,” he added.
The Delta State Vocational Centre comprises of courses such as, Welding and Fabrication, Computer Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, Fashion Designing, Catering, Hair Dressing, Decoration, Beed Making, Make Over, among others.
