The weekly special Security Council meeting of Ebonyi State Government was held this, 13th May, 2020 with members of the State Security Council, members of the State Anti-Coronavirus Committee, Council Chairmen, Leadership of Coordinators’ Forum and the Chairman of Traditional Rulers Council in attendance.
The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE in a broadcast held after the Security Council meeting directed as follows:
1. All suspensions placed on Government functionaries, including those of the State Executive Council members and Coordinators of Development Centres are hereby lifted. However, all office holders who fail to carry out their official duties diligently shall henceforth be removed from office.
2. All persons placed on half salaries and other government functionaries placed on working suspension for not conforming to the State Government’s directives have been graciously pardoned by the Governor.
3. The two hotels sealed in connection with contraventions of Covid-19 Regulations are hereby unsealed.
4. All those being held for trial for contravening Ebonyi State Corona Virus and Other Dangerous (Infectious) Diseases and Related Matters Laws 005, 2020 and those who have been convicted for various offences under the Law are hereby pardoned. However with effect from Wednesday 13th May, 2020, all persons who contravene the Corona Virus Law should know that there may not be another day of grace.
5. The State Government has commenced the distribution of palliatives to the vulnerable persons across the state. Distribution of palliatives to Ebonyians in diaspora shall be as follows:
Lagos State ——- 5,000 bags of 5kg and Ten Million Naira Cash
Abuja —— 2,000 bags of 5kg and Five Million Naira Cash
6. The Governor approved a window for burial from 15th to 23rd May, 2020. In this connection therefore, all persons who want to bury their loved ones that died outside the state are free to do so, provided that they undertake to comply with the State COVID-19 Regulations and Precautionary measures. Please, contact the Ministry of Information and State Orientation for procedures and necessary clearance.
7. Meanwhile, the Governor has commended the efforts of the Council Chairmen in equipping the newly established 39 holding centres across the state which as at 13th May 2020 had quarantined a total of 448 suspected cases for screening, and he further directed the deployment of Health staff from the 13 General Hospitals to the various holding centres to help render medical assistance to those quarantined at the various holding centres.
8. Again, the State Government’s “NO Facemask, No Movement” is still in force. Ebonyians outside the state should please stay where they are for the time being, but anybody who insists on coming back to Ebonyi State must subject himself or herself to 14 days quarantine as part of measures to contain the scourge of Corona virus Pandemic in the State. Government further orders that any returnee who escapes from the quarantine centre or who upon returning to Ebonyi State hides from the engagements of the COVID-19 Rapid Response team shall be declared wanted.
9. All persons at the holding centres shall be tested twice. Samples of such suspected cases shall be collected on the 10th and 14th day respectively and thereafter discharged if the results are negative.
10. The Divisional Police Officers are required to register all incidents of COVID-19 offenders including seized vehicles and motorcycles for prosecution. Offenders shall be quarantined at a holding centre at the Local Government Area.
11. So far, Ebonyi State has recorded 8 cases of Covid-19. The 8th case is a 3-year old son of the couple (6th and 7th cases) that tested positive last week and they are returnees from Lagos State who were intercepted on transit to Ebonyi State
12. The Governor enjoins all communities to cooperate and help the Task Force fish out returnees and defaulters of the Covid-19 Regulations in the interest of the safety of our people and security of our state.
