The Federal Capital Territory Police Command said it had deployed material and human resources at its disposal across the nation’s capital ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Specifically, the command noted that explosive ordinance device experts and personnel had been attached to various prayer grounds, recreational centres, and event centres.
This comes after the Federal Government declared Monday and Tuesday public holidays for the celebration.
In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, added that the command would conduct raids on identified black spots, and uncompleted buildings/shanties among others.
She noted that the measures were to ensure there is peace in the FCT before, during, and after the celebration.
The statement read, “The FCT Police Command in anticipation of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration by Muslim faithful, has proactively deployed material and human resources at the command’s disposal across the nooks and crannies of the nation’s capital.
Adeh hinted that there would be diversion points for road users near Eid grounds.
“Worthy of note are diversion points in the territory, some of which include: diversion point around Eid ground by Airport Interchange to Games Village and Jabi by a
Airport Road into the main city,” she added.
Adeh, however, said the Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, urged residents to give him men operatives utmost cooperation, as the deployments are solely aimed at ensuring the safety of the populace.
He also called on Muslim faithful in FCT, as they join others around the world in the celebration, to embrace the virtues of the festivity, while reassuring the populace of his commitment to ensure the safety of all and sundry.
