Ndi-Igbo United Forum (NUF) says the federal government has harkened to its cry over exploitative and outrageous billings by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.

A statement by the NUF Secretary-General, Mazi Agodi Kanu said the body’s battle for approval, procurement and distribution of free meters to consumers to end estimated billings which was one of the numerous demands has yielded fruitful results.

The statement reads:

“Recall our long drawn battle against Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Minister of Power, Senate Committee on Power and House Committee on Power in respect of the above subject matter because of suffocating impact of estimated billings”.

“Federal government has acquired and distributed meters to Distribution Companies (DISCOS) and in our case, EEDC for onward distribution to unmetered customers with immediate effect. The order came without cost to you the consumer”.

“As a frontline force and stakeholder in this situation, *NDI-GBO UNITED FORUM (NUF* a sociopolitical organization committed to overall Igbo unity, interest and welfare* is therefore alerting and informing Southeast Consumers to go to the nearest EEDC office to demand for the Federal Government *free meter”.

“We advise you to be smart and record conversations from any official suggestive of asking for payment or gratification. Together we can end the reigning impunity and recklessness from people paid to serve us. Such recording and further complaints should be sent to us for necessary follow ups.

“We previously observed and reported technical impairments in meters earlier sold by DISCOS. We want to believe that the current meters have passed *integrity tests* and will not shortchange consumers. Please observe and report any ugly presentation when the new meter is issued and installed for you.
