The Executive Secretary of the Delta State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Comrade Michael Akpobire has urged the people of Ughelli North and Deltans in general to key into the technical education revolution in the state by encouraging their wards to enrol in the newly revamped technical schools.
Akpobire stated this on Wednesday when he led the management team of the Board to an advocacy visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty, okiemute Onaijite Igere 1, Ovie of Ogor Kingdom. Comrade Akpobire said the Board was in Ogor kingdom to sensitise indigenes to maximally utilise the facilities available at the Technical College at Ofagbe.
The Executive Secretary expressed shock at the low enrolment at the training facilities despite the huge funds invested by the Delta State Government. “It is disappointing that despite the huge funds invested in the Technical colleges, we still have low enrolment. It is therefore imperative that all hands must be on deck to canvas for students for the technical schools. The State Government has kept faith by revamping the technical schools, it is now our responsibility as a people to encourage our children and wards to enrol in these schools to acquire relevant skills”.
“Attending technical school is better for our children because apart from teaching relevant subjects taught in the conventional secondary schools, the technical schools also teach the acquisition of relevant skills,” he said
Responding, the Ovie of Ogor Kingdom, thanked the board for bringing the prosperity message to his community and called on his subjects to key into the programme of acquiring skills from Ogor Technical College as the era of white collar job is over considering the rising rate of unemployment in the country.
He appreciated Delta State Government for its kind gesture towards revamping the forgotten Ogor Technical College and bringing it back to limelight with modern facilities that indeed prosperity for all Deltans is coming to reality speedily, he added.
