Employment Scam: Court Jails NSCDC Operative Three Years

Justice A. J Awak of Gombe State High Court on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, convicted and sentenced an operative of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zubairu Baba Ali, attached to the Yobe State Command, to three years imprisonment for his involvement in an employment scam.

He was arraigned before the court by the Gombe Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), on one- count charge bordering on cheating to the tune of Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300, 000.00), contrary to Section 320 and punishable under Section 322 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.

When the convict was arraigned, he pleaded guilty to the charge raised against him, prompting the prosecution counsel, G. I. Ndeh, to pray the court to convict him accordingly.
Justice Awak, sentenced the convict to three years imprisonment with an option of N50, 000.00( Fifty Thousand Naira only) fine.

Ali ran into troubled waters in 2017, when he collected the sum of Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300, 000.00) from one Muhammed Bashir Muhammad in Gombe, to secure a job at NSCDC. Bashir complied and paid the money into a third-party account’s number. However, investigations by the EFCC uncovered the fraud. The owner of the account with Keystone Bank, Iliyasu Yakubu Amana admitted that he handed over the money to the convict.
