Chief Executive Officer, Encyclotainment Ltd, Obinna Ukaobasi has identified entertainment and talent as alternative to crime and other social vices in the society.
Ukaobasi who is an entertainment consultant to Enugu State Ministry of Culture and Tourism maintained that entertainment holds great potential for lifting the youths out of poverty.
He spoke at a joint press briefing with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism ahead of the first edition of Enugu Easter Carnival scheduled for April this year.
According to him, “If people are encouraged to use their God given talent you will see that crime in the society will decrease, it will come to the barest minimum, but if people are not encouraged to use their God given talent, you will see them doing a whole lot of crimes in the society and that is why we complain about kidnapping, theft and what have you.
“But if we continue to do things like this, you will agree with me that in the nearest future we are going to have zero crime, because everybody will want to use his or her own God-given talent in a way that you wouldn’t have time to remember about anything negative. All you we be thinking about is how to contribute towards the development of your society and that is why we are poise, we are so desirous in making sure that we actualize this noble project which is going to be an annual event starting from this year”.
He said the Easter Carnival which is first of its kind in the entertainment industry will kick-off with “Enugu To The World Talent Unseen” competition aimed at discovering the best talents in music, acting, modeling, dance, Deejaying, comedy and art, while the grand finale is tagged “Enugu Easter Jam Blast Concert”.
Ukaobasi explained that the seven talents categories will be grouped into two, and the first phase of audition will take place on April 4th and 8th at Platinum Lounge Hotel where the best three would be selected from each category who go for the final phase on April 10, where the overall best will be selected and given the platform to showcase their talent in the grand finale on Easter Monday, April 13.
“The first audition is going to be the 4th of April. We are going to take on that day three creative category which includes music, acting and art. After that day, on the 8th of April we are going to have the second category which is also Deejaying, dance, comedy and modeling.
“At the end, we are going to select the three best out of these whole talent categories for the finals. The finals will come on the 10th of April and in the finals we are going to select one person out of the three persons that we have chosen in the past. And this stage, one star that will be born that day and will also be given opportunity to exhibit their talent for the first time in Enugu Easter Jam blast Concert that will be happening on the 13th of April.
“On that 13th April we are going to be paying host to who is who in the entertainment industry, outing across the whole Nigeria even outside Nigeria”.
He commend the Enugu state government for approving and supporting the initiative in a time that development of talent has proven to be powerful tool in creating job opportunities for teeming unemployed youths and reducing social vices.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ugonna Ibe represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Okamagbueze Obioma said the Ministry is partnering Encyclotainment LTD to revolutionise entertainment and boost tourism in the state.
Ibe said the carnival will revamp the state’s entertainment sector and solicited the partnership of the media to promote the project.
Participation forms can be purchased at Ministry of Culture and Tourism or any branch of Access bank to pick up audition forms at the cost of 3, 000 naira.
The winners of the competition will go home with 1 million naira each and a one year deal with Billionaire Records USA for winner in the music category.
