Anglican Church Of Nigeria Elects 11 Bishops, Archbishops To Fill Vacant Episcopal Sees In ENUGU, Oyo,  Plateau, Others

The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion (CoN) has elected seven Bishops and four Archbishops to fill vacant sees across the country.

A statement on Tuesday morning by Communication Officer, Korede Akintunde, said that the bishops and archbishops were elected during the Church’s Episcopal Synod held at St Matthew’s Anglican Church Maitama, in Abuja Diocese on Monday, 12th August 2024.

“At the Synod was the election of some Bishops and Archbishops of the internal provinces which commenced after a Holy Eucharistic Service was held,” Akintunde said.

According to the statement, at the end of the House of Bishops’ Synod, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, the Most Rev. Dr. Henry Ndukuba announced the elections of Seven clergymen to fill the vacant Episcopal Sees in Seven Dioceses.

“The following Servants of God were duly Elected at this Synod: Jos Diocese – Ven. Ephraim Gongdem; Okigwe Diocese – Ven Dr John Obinali; Enugu Diocese – Ven. Prof Sam IKe; Ijebu North Diocese – Ven. Dr. Godwin Odubena.

“Ahoada Diocese – Ven. Bernard Hanson; Wusasa Diocese – Ven Titus Alkali and Osun North Diocese – Ven Samuel O. Ifeyemi.”

The statement further listed the four Archbishops who were elected as: “Enugu Province – Rt. Rev’d Sosthenes Eze, Bishop of Enugu North Diocese; Kwara Province – Most Rev’d Israel Afolabi Amao, Bishop of New Bussa Diocese; Ibadan Province – Rt Rev’d Dr Williams Oluwarotimi Aladekugbe

Bishop of Ibadan North Diocese; and LoKoja Province -Most Rev’d Daniel Yisa, Bishop of Minna Diocese.”

The Communication Officer noted that the Primate has called on everyone to pray and support the newly elected and their families as they go into their new places of assignments after all the due processes, training and consecration is concluded.

“He called on the newly elected into various offices to pray and seek God’s face for the power of God in their new roles.

“The Primate added that the Consecration of the Bishops-elect and the presentation Archbishops-elect will hold on Wednesday 18th of September, 2024 at the Standing Committee Meeting of the Church being hosted by Nike Diocese in Enugu State.”
