Queen’s Model Secondary School, an Enugu-based educational institution, on Thursday awarded scholarships to 12 outstanding students, who performed exceptionally brilliant in critical external examinations.
Presenting the scholarship awards at the school premises, Director of the school, Mr Chukwuma Okenwa, told newsmen that Master Maxwell Okafor performed exceptionally well in JAMB UTME and post-UTME exams, while the remaining 11 students passed their Junior WAEC exams with flagging colours.
Okenwa said that Okafor made the school proud by passing his WAEC and NECO exams with very high grades and made JAMB UTME and post-UTME by scoring 289 and 287; and secured admission to read electrical electronics engineering in University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He noted that other 11 students of the school that received scholarship awards made their Junior WAEC exams by making Alphas (As) in their subjects.

According to him, the school has a long standing tradition to always reward hard work especially when it has to do with academic excellence.
“In fulfillment of our tradition to reward excellence and hard work, we are giving these scholarships to further motivate them and also spur other students to put in more efforts to their studies.
“We are giving Master Okafor one year full scholarship, which covers all expenses he would incur this year in UNN and we will still be monitoring his progress and other anticipated breakthroughs he might achieve in the university.
“Okafor for the past three years, while in secondary school, had been on scholarship for his senior secondary school and even at that he always wins the term best student’s scholarship as well, which we pay him cash for,’’ he said.
The director said that the school had to celebrate the 11 students that did exceptionally well at the Junior WAEC exams, most especially Uchechi Peter, who made 10 As.
“Miss Uchechi Peter had been award all-expenses paid scholarship for her three years senior secondary education including her WAEC and NECO fees, school uniform, textbooks and notebooks, this means that she will not spend a dime for education until she completes her senior secondary school.
“The remaining other 10 that did well at the junior WAEC, some of them made 7 As, 6As, and 5As, had been awarded scholarship to cover at least a class as they go through their senior secondary school,’’ he said.
Okenwa, who said that Queen’s Model Secondary School was established 25 years ago, advised students not be carried away by technology and television but to concentrate and get close to their books to improve themselves and aim to be the best they can be.
Responding, Master Maxwell Okafor, who thanked his alma mater for the scholarship gesture, revealed that he studies a minimum of 10 hours each day by running two daily time-tables for reading.
“I focus more of my time during the day in reading and ensuring that I jot down new ideas and development as I read daily,’’ Okafor said.
The remaining 10 students that passed the junior WAEC exams with flagging colours are; Agudosi Chimdindu, Chukwuifo Great, Hope, Onyia, Benita Sam, and Echem Princess.
Others are; Onyeananam Great, Ikeze Ruth, Emmanuel Mmesoma, Ijeoma Bright and Onwa Goodness.
