The Enugu state committee on child adoption has called for strict compliance with the provisions of relevant laws on child adoption to forestall child abuse in the state.
The chairman of the committee, Most Rev Emmanuel Chukwuma made this known while briefing journalists on Monday at the ministry of gender affairs, and social development Enugu.
The state committee on child adoption was set up in 2015 to ensure that the worrisome anomalies of child selling and trafficking, as well as other forms of child abuse, are curbed in the state.
Addressing journalists, chairman of the committee and Archbishop Of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Emmanuel Chukwuma commended Governor Ugwuanyi‘s for initiating policies aimed at protecting vulnerable children in the state.
He warned that any authorized hospitals and homes caught keeping girls and women as well as practising illegal adoption will face the full wrath of the law.
Chukwuma further advised girls with an unwanted pregnancy to go to the ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development for necessary guidance.
He also called on the media as well as members of the public to be at the vanguard of the campaign against illegal adoption and child trafficking.
