The people of Mbu Ward 1 in Isi-Uzo local government area of Enugu State have cried out over what they described as politicization and hijack of the Smart School Project cited in the community by the government of Enugu State.
In an open letter to the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and titled “Wrongful Siting Of Mbu Ward I Smart Green School at Ugwuanama Farm Settlement”, Mbu Ward I Stakeholders alleged that the Smart School Project in Mbu Ward I has been moved to a farm settlement and remote community of Mbu, called Ugwuanama, contrary to the guidelines and instructions from the State Government.
The letter signed on behalf of the stakeholders by Agbo A. I ESQ. recalled that Mbu Ward I Stakeholders Forum had earlier written to the Executive Governor of Enugu State on the activities of one Alhaji Sani, regarding the Smart School Project in Mbu Ward I, in connivance with some obviously compromised government functionaries.
According to the letter, Mbu Ward 1 is comprised of three Communities; Mbu Amon Community with about 7 Polling Units, Akpoga Mbu Autonomous Community with 1 Polling Unit and Ugwuanama Mbu Autonomous Community with only 1 Polling Unit stressing that Ugwuanama Mbu is a farm settlement of Uwani Village with less than 40 Households.
They opined that the criteria from the State Government that determines the location of the construction of the Smart School project; which include; being central to the Ward, unanimous decision of stakeholders on central location for the Ward as well as the capacity to feed the school with pupils and students commensurate to the size of the Smart Green School, a place with adequate security to safeguard the equipment and facilities in the school and accessibility in terms of road were not adhered to.
They accused Alhajo Sani Ahmed Ibrahim of conniving with the Commissioner for Education, Enugu State, to subvert the State Government approved guidelines for the location of the construction of Smart School project in the State.
The concerned stakeholders of MBU Ward 1 said Governor Peter MBAH, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG and the general public should note that the so-called ongoing excavation of trenches (Foundation) at Ugwuanama Primary School could not be said to have emanated from the Government of Enugu State as the process has been put on hold to ensure that due process is observed.
According to them, it does not make sense to jettison a central place and site this legacy and multi-billion Smart school at a place that will require the construction of additional infrastructure to access the school.
They noted that citing Smart Green School Project at Ugwuanama won’t serve the purpose and it’s objectives to the Good People of Mbu Ward 1.
They said the school if allowed to be sited at Ugwuanama won’t be serving the purpose and the intentions of the Enugu State Government, as the purpose of its establishment will be defeated thereby ending as another elephant project; a Cathedral without congregation.
They expressed the belief that Enugu State Government under the leadership of His Excellency Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah will take expedited action and avert the impending implosion in Mbu Ward 1.
They appealed to the state government to have the Smart Green School sited where it will be central to all the Villages and Communities involved and not at boundary where it would be prone to security threats and invaders.
