The President, Enugu State Customary Court of Appeal, Justice George Nnamani has expressed gratitude to the Governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for approving the construction of two model customary court buildings in each of the seventeen local government areas of the state.
Justice Nnamani made this known on Monday while inaugurating the Enugu state customary court of appeal rules validation committee, held at the President’s Chambers, Customary Court of Appeal, Enugu.
Section 284 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, gives the President of the Customary Court of Appeal of a state the authority to make rules for regulating the practice and procedure of the court.
Inaugurating the committee that is charged with the responsibility of validating the Enugu state customary court of appeal rules, the president, Justice George Nnamani who said the customary court of appeal rules 2010 made pursuant to that section of the constitution has become outdated, noted that the loopholes in it had plagued the speedy dispensation of justice for ten years.
He thanked Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for making the project possible as he never turned down any request geared towards the speedy development of the customary court of appeal.
While handing over the draft rules to the president of the court, the chairman of the committee, Justice Emmanuel Nnamani commended the president for his support which according to him, entrenched smooth process.
Also, the chairman, Enugu state customary court of appeal rules validation, Justice Ken Udeh promised to expedite actions in order to have a new court rules that will foster smooth operations.
