Enugu Govt bars two private schools from conducting NECO for 2 years

The Enugu state government says it will withdraw approval for the conduct of the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC and national examination council, from private schools found culpable in examination malpractice in the state.

The Enugu state commissioner for education, Professor Uche Eze stated this on Thursday at a familiarization meeting with principals of secondary schools across the six education zones in the state, held at QUEENS’s school.

Professor Uche Eze who was reappointed by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to oversee the affairs of the ministry of education said two private schools have already been blacklisted from conducting the national examination council, NECO for two years.

He said the state government is poised to improve the education sector so as to produce highly educated and technically ready workforce.

Professor Eze stated that the school has the role of producing human beings who can solve the problems of the society and advance the wellbeing of humanity.

While commending chairmen of board of various agencies under the ministry for their immeasurable support and innovations during his first outing in the ministry, professor eze acknowledged the important roles of principals in teaching and learning.

In a remark, the chairman, post primary schools management board, PPSMB, Nestor Ezeme warned principals against collection of illegal fees and advised strict adherence to approved fee chart introduced by the state government.

He also advised the principals to put into productive use, computers provided to various schools in the state.

Ezeme disclosed that no public school was indicted for examination malpractices in the last concluded external examinations in the state.

Also speaking, the special adviser to Governor Ugwuanyi on education, Kingsley Udeh said the state government has initiated innovative ideas to improve the welfare of teachers in the state.

He assured that the state government will remain committed to overhaul decaying infrastructure in schools to improve teaching and learning.

The meeting afforded the opportunity for principals to raise issues of security in schools, dearth of teachers in rural areas, and the need to recruit science and mathematics teachers as well as construction of principal quarters.

The meeting was also attended by the permanent secretaries’ ministry of education, and the post primary secondary schools management board, Nwanneka Onah and Favour Ugwuanyi.
