Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has stated that the vital role of education in the society is the reason he listed it as one of the four-point agenda of his administration.

The governor stated this through his deputy, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, on the occasion of the opening ceremony of a training workshop for secondary school teachers in Enugu State with the theme: “Enhancing Excellence of Secondary School Teachers in Enugu State”.

He praised the efforts of the state’s ministry of education and Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB) for collaborating with the organisers, Living Seed. “The importance of this training workshop, therefore, cannot be overemphasized,” he said, adding, “the teachers impart knowledge to the students and the update of their knowledge becomes necessary to keep abreast of the current issues in the profession”.

Governor Ugwuanyi, therefore, urged the teachers present to make good use of this opportunity and participate actively in the workshop given the significance of its focus and ultimate goal of enthroning excellence among secondary school teachers.

Earlier in an address, the commissioner for education, Prof. Uche Eze, stressed the need for the training as it would help secondary school teachers in the state to acquire more knowledge for the good of the students.

Also speaking, the PPSMB chairman, Mr. Nestor Ezema, commended Governor Ugwuanyi for his commitment to the education sector which reflects in the intensive rehabilitation across schools in the state and provision of instructional resources, noting that this seminar is consistent with the governor’s vision for education.

Barr. Ezema challenged the teachers to use the knowledge acquired at the workshop to broaden their capacity for the good of the state.
Over one thousand secondary school teachers attended the workshop held at the auditorium of Queens’ School, Enugu.
