Operational activities for twenty-four hour waste evacuation and management initiated by the Enugu state government has commenced across the Enugu metropolis.
This followed the approval by the state executive council for the engagement of a functional waste management operator for a waste-to-wealth venture for environmental and economic boost in the state.
Addressing newsmen on the operational setup, the Managing Director of the operating firm, Serene Green, Brown Ihemdi, said that all machinery had been put in place for service delivery according to specifications of the government.
Ihemdi explained that the initiative would ensure that all the dump sites in the state are harnessed to avoid littering and waste of any refuse across the city.
“We are into waste collection and disposal of waste, and we are also into recycling of the waste and we are here to manage the waste in Enugu state properly to make sure that Enugu state is clean”.
“We believe that there is no waste. Every waste is useful. If we are importing some products for ceramic tiles, with this, it will be cheaper, more economical”.
“Because you are not going for importation again, we can use from what we have and refine it to get what we want.”
Meanwhile, the vehicular facilities displayed at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, have been tested and kept in readiness for the operations.
