Police have arrested two suspects for stealing 26 water tanks at Amube-Ohum in Orba community, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s community, in the Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The suspects, Chiegeonu Eze, 22, and Obinna Ezeugwu, 23, were arrested on April 23.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Nsukwe indicated that the arrest of the suspects was effected with the assistance of law-abiding citizens of the area.
Ndukwe said the suspects who specialised in stealing water tanks from building construction sites in the community were arrested attempting to steal two tanks from a site on the said date.
The PPRO disclosed that their arrest led to the recovery of 24 other tanks adding that they were arraigned in court and accordingly remanded to Nsukka Custodial Centre for further hearing.
The statement reads:
“The duo, who were found to be specialized in stealing water tanks, commonly called Gee-Pee tank, from building construction sites in the community, were arrested while attempting to steal two tanks from a site on the said date”.
“The two (2) tanks and seven (7) others were recovered from them, while their confessional statements led to the further recovery of seventeen (17) others from one of their receivers of the stolen tanks, who is at large”.
“Meanwhile, owners of the tanks have been identifying them, while upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspects were arraigned in court and accordingly remanded to Nsukka Custodial Centre for further hearing”.
