Enugu Police to Partner NIPR on Crime Prevention

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mohammad Danmallam, has assured the continued safety of lives and property of all residents in the state.

Danmallam gave the assurance while receiving members of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Enugu State Chapter in his office on Tuesday in Enugu.

He stated that “information is power’’; adding that the command would continue to partner and collaborate with members of the public and reputable associations to stem crime and criminality.

“Security today is everybody’s business; police cannot do it all alone. We are counting on your cooperation and continuous partnership. So, we will work with you in the area of information in order to improve our network and reach in the state,’’ he said.

On the herders-farmers crisis, the commissioner noted that the command had been able to manage the situation effectively through close and constant consultation between both sides.

“We have no problem as both sides had shown great understanding and respect in our constant consultations and meetings with them at the state and area command levels,’’ he said.

Danmallam commended the NIPR for the commendation given to one of the officers of the command, SP Ebere Amaraizu, who is the Police Public Relations Officer of the command.

“We would continue to work hand-in-hand to promote harmony in the state,’’ he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of NIPR, Enugu State Chapter, Chike Ezugwu, lauded the commissioner for the professional ways he had continued to handle crisis situations especially the herders-farmers crisis in the state.

Ezugwu noted that the command and the NIPR had maintained a long relationship; while the institute had facilitated public relations training in the command and printed handbills to help disseminate phone and social media addresses of the police.

“We must command the police authorities even at its Abuja headquarters on the high esteem it holds public relations and the NIPR,” he said.

The chairman also noted that the NIPR was happy over the quick response to distress calls and the peace in the state.

“NIPR also lauds Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the support and attention given to promoting peaceful co-existence, safety and security of lives the state,” he said.

Ezugwu also informed the commissioner of the upcoming Annual National Conference for Chapter Chairmen and Secretaries of NIPR to be held in Enugu in October.

Highlight of the courtesy visit was the presentation of the commendation letter to the commissioner.
