The Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Tuesday said it has commenced an investigation into the recent attacks and counterattacks launched by the factional leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students against one another in the territory.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh confirmed the development in a WhatsApp message on Tuesday following an inquiry by our correspondent.
In a viral video posted on X, on Tuesday, some armed men were seen butchering a lone young man and smashing a bus designed with the pictures of a factional NANS leader and a former presidential candidate of the association, Chibuzor Obi, at Zone 8, Abuja.
Reacting to the development, the FCT PPRO, SP Adeh, said the police were ensuring that there is no disruption of peace being enjoyed by residents of the territory while promising to communicate further development.
Adeh noted, “The FCT police command is aware of the news making rounds about the recent attacks and counterattacks launched by the factional NANS leaders against one another in the Federal Capital Territory and therefore wishes to state that the police command has commenced an investigation into the matter.
“The command is ensuring no disruption of peace being enjoyed by residents is allowed. Further development would be communicated.”
Both the substantive NANS president, Lucky Emenike, and the factional president, Chinazor Obi, could not be reached for comments on Tuesday, as phone calls and text messages by our correspondent were not responded to.
