The Coalition of Northern Groups, North Central Zone, and the Students Wing of the North Central Youth Association, have stated that it will resist the planned hike in fuel price in every way possible adding that President Muhammad Buhari has failed Nigerians.

The groups rose from one-day stakeholders meeting on Saturday in Minna and called on the President to suspend the planned hike of prices of petroleum products.

“The current administration of President Mohammadu Buhari and all the 36 states of the federation have failed totally in the major areas of providing security and protect lives and property of the citizens and ensuring a secured economic environment for growth and development of the country”.

“Nigeria’s current leadership appears incapable or are unwilling to lead the people out of their multiple economic, social, and security challenges,” they said.

North Central Coordinator of the group, Mohammed Mohammed, who read the communique at the end of the meeting said Nigerians are already going through difficult times, saying the hike in fuel price will worsen the plight of the people.

“The planned increase of petroleum products prices in the country will further worsen the sufferings of Nigerians.

“We will reject in totality the planned fuel price hike as it will amount to sending majority of Nigerians, especially in the north who are already on life support machine due to the current hardship to their early grave,” he said.

The group maintained that the reason given by the government for the planned increase in fuel price are traceable only to inept and insensitive leadership at the national and state levels.

They further therefore threatened to sensitise all levels Northern society to support what they called “a sustained resistance move to force the government to immediately rescind the implementation of this unpopular, corrupt and inhuman policy or risk an unprecedented mass action and civil disobedience” .
