Nigerian Covid 19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus programme
(NG-CARES) had flagged off the distribution of power tillers, cassava stems, organic fertilisers and other agricultural inputs to farmers and Agro-entrueprenuers from the 17 local government areas of Enugu State, in his address, Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah restated the commitment of his administration in promoting agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation.
During the event, the Head State Cares Coordinating Unit (SCCU), Mr Christian Nwankwo explained that NG-CARES programme is a collaborative effort of the federal and state governments to bring succour, hope and relief to the poor and vulnerable households who were adversely affected by Covid 19 pandemic.
Mr Nwankwo noted that NG-CARES programme has 3 delivery platforms which are CSDA, Fadama and SME, saying that the programme is responsible for the provision of machinery and other farming inputs as well as to carry out developmental projects in various communities.
Also speaking, the General Manager, Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), Mrs Ugochukwu Ugwunnadi stated that her platform provides financial resources to enhance social transfers, basic services, and livelihood support for impoverished and vulnerable households using the Community -Driven Development approach.
Enugu Fadama is also one of the implementation platforms for NG-CARES programme. This platform aims at ensuring food security and safe functioning of food supply chains among poor and vulnerable households.
The State Project Coordinator of Fadama, Mr Geoffrey Eze, speaking to the news men, noted that Fadama
is supporting farmers with power tillers, bundles of cassava stems, organic fertilizers, agro chemicals and other infrastructural services.
The result Area 3 is SME which aims to mitigate the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on local economies by protecting the livelihood of both existing and newly vulnerable households and supporting the recovery of local economic activities, particularly among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
