As Nigeria gears up towards another democracy day celebration, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has commended Federal Government‘s resolve to effectively and absolutely cub corruption in the country.
The commendation was given by the South East Zonal Head of the Commission, Johnson Babalola on Tuesday 23 May 2017, while making a brief remark after a Road Walk organized by his office to help create public awareness and mobilize the citizenry in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
“It is without any fear of equivocation that I commend the federal government for its political will in tackling the menace of corruption in this country and we want to bring to Nigerians’ consciousness that corruption does not pay .”
“Under this present government, the fight against corruption has received its greatest impetus since independence and today, with certain policies such as the Administration of Criminal Justice Act and the Whistle Blowing policy put in place, our country has never seen it so good in this regard.”
He said that the walk which was held across all EFCC’s office across the country was aimed at bringing the fight to everybody’s doorstep so that Nigerians from all walks of life irrespective of social, ethnic and economic status would own the fight and see it as theirs too.
While thanking all stakeholders who graced the occasion for their support and participation even at a very short notice, Babalola vowed that “EFCC is ever ready to fight this fight and let everybody, every Nigerian know it that this battle must be won because corruption is the reason why we are the way we are today and with the support of Nigerians, the country shall be better.”
In their various goodwill remarks, the Deputy Zonal Head of the Independence Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Anselem Eze Nwafor , representative of the Sector Commander,Nigeria Road Safety Corps, Christopher Ogbodo and an officer from the Department of State Security, DSS, Adekunle Latona all stated that history would not forgive anyone who fails to support the fight against corruption.
They called on Nigerians to leverage on the whistle blowing policies of the government to contribute their quota to the fight against corruption stating that failure to do so not only means shying away from civic duties but laying a wrong foundation for the young and unborn generations.
The walk which kicked off from the college road office of the zonal office, involved officials of the commission who were carrying various placards with anti-corruption messages, corps members and other stakeholders through major streets of the Coal City notably, Ozubulu, NKpokiti, Presidential Road, Ogui Road and Independence/Bisala Avenue.
