Industrial Training Fund trains 500 youths in Enugu

Five hundred youths in Enugu have completed three months training programme facilitated by the Industrial Training Fund, ITF. The beneficiaries are part of the 5th Phase Batch ‘B’ of the National Industrial Skills Development Programme, NISDP.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi said his administration will remain committed to improving the lives of the people.

The governor who was represented by the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo congratulated the trainees for the successful completion of their three months training programme and reiterated his administration’s commitment towards empowering the youths.

The governor called on the trainees to utilise the opportunity which has been given to them to put into practice what they have learnt during the training and urged them to utilise opportunities available at the state Small and Medium Enterprise Centre.

In an address, ITF Area Manager, Nonyelum Nneka thanked the governor for his efforts and contributions towards youth development in the state.

Nneka noted that over five hundred indigenous youths of Enugu state were carefully selected and successfully trained in areas of cosmetology, carpentry and woodwork, domestic electrical wiring, tailoring, weaving, welding and fabrication.

“Enugu state is one of the privileged states that have benefited from the batch B fifth phase of this laudable skills programme across Nigeria. This training programme commenced on 6th March 2017”, she said.

Director General ITF, JOSEPH ARI who was represented by Dickson Onuoha stated that since the inception of the programme, over Ninty-Three Thousand, One hundred youths have been equipped with various skills.

Ari also noted that ITF is working tirelessly to ensure that Nigerian citizens fill in vacancies meant for them that are currently being filled by expatriates who have exceeded their one percent quota, especially in the area of construction, oil and gas sectors.

One of the trainees who spoke on behalf of other participants, Rapheal Udeh thanked Enugu state governor and ITF management for creating such platform for youth development.

The dignitaries were taken round to inspect the creative works of the trainees after which presentations were made by the participants who were all very impressed.
