The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Enugu has said its plans for early activation of polling units during March 9th Gubernatorial and state assembly elections remains on course.
Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Enugu, Emeka Ononamadu stated this on Tuesday at the daily media/stakeholders’ briefing ahead of the gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly elections.
According to Ononamadu, “on the 9th March 2019 all polling stations will open by 8.00 am prompt”, adding that measures have been put in place to achieve its mandate and praised the conduct of “citizens and voters in the just concluded election”.

“We have just concluded meeting with security agencies and management for effective security during elections”.
“Release of security hotlines to the public will be done soon. The hotlines are meant to be used to attract the attention of security and INEC when one identifies any criminal violation of election laws”.
“Meanwhile these security numbers include that of police as well as other security agencies. Citizens are expected to use them properly”.
“The sorting and batching of sensitive materials is being concluded now at the central bank for quick movement to LGA’S tomorrow. The sorting and batching is being observed by security agencies, party agents, CSO election observers and media”.
“The movement of material starts at 9.00 am tomorrow, (Wednesday)
“To LGAs, we expect to complete the movement by 1.00 pm while sorting according to RACS and polling unit end by 6.00 pm”.
“Movement to RAC starts by 8.00 am on Friday and we hope to complete this process by 1 pm. on Friday refresher training will commence in all the 260 RACS from 5.00 pm”.
“I reiterate, all processes are open for observation by party agents, CSOs, observers and media”.
“We will expect all observers to communicate us when anything untoward is discovered in the course of our preparation”.
“I encourage media to help in our publicity and sensitization to reduce the extent of invalid votes that was experienced during the presidential election”.
