INEC receives sensitive, non-sensitive materials in Enugu

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Enugu says sensitive and non-sensitive materials for 2019 gubernatorial and state Houses of Assembly elections have arrived the state.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Emeka Ononamadu disclosed this during a media and stakeholders briefing ahead of forthcoming gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly Elections scheduled for March 9, 2019.

Ononamadu said distribution of the materials will commence on Tuesday at the Central Bank of Nigeria were all registered parties are to have one representative on ground to witness the exercise.

The REC who commended people of the state for their co-operation during the presidential and national assembly elections held on February 23, 2019 confirmed that a few challenges were recorded during the Presidential, Senate and House of Representatives elections, noting that most of such challenges were external factors which were borne from late arrival of materials and security personnel.

.“As at today, we have received and confirmed all the sensitive materials for gubernatorial election and the twenty four Houses of Assembly seats in Enugu state”.

“We have recorded 100% completion of Smart Card Reader configuration and charging, now ready for deployment”.

“We have equally distributed all the outstanding materials and funds for activation of the 260 registration area centers in the 17 local government area of Enugu state”.

“INEC Enugu will start sorting of available sensitive materials at the CBN on Tuesday 5th of march 2019. This will be done in the presence of party agents, election observers and security”.

“Sensitive materials and smartcard readers will be deployed to the local government level on 6th of March 2019. On the same 6th of March 2019, sort of sensitive and non-sensitive materials according to registration area will start and end on the 7th march, 2019. Party agents, CSO observers and security agencies are also encouraged to observe the process”.

“From hours of 9. 00 a:m on March, movement of materials from local government to RACs will commence and end before 4:00 pm”.

“Therefore, all the 260 RACs in Enugu state are supposed to have been activated on or before 3. pm on the 8th of March 2019”.

“Movement staff, security and materials from RACs to Polling Units will start from 5:30 am as we expect all the 4150 polling locations to be activated before 8:00 am on the 9th of March 2019”.

“On the 5th and 6th of March, we will be sorting and moving materials from CBN to LGAs, we expect all political parties to nominate only one representative as we are going to sort right inside the Central bank loading bay which has limited space.

“We will not be distributing in the open due to threatening rainfall which we narrowly escaped during the presidential election.

“This means that not more than one agent from each of the political parties will be allowed into the Central Bank sorting arena. All agents should endeavour to come with valid means of identity.  Also one representative of each of the observers will equally be allowed to go into the central bank loading bay to observe the sorting and distribution of sensitive materials”.
