Kaduna police foil kidnap attempt, rescue 16 victims

Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have rescued 16 persons abducted by bandits along the Birnin-Gwari road, Udawa in Chikun Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.

The state police spokesman, ASP Mohammad Jalige, who stated this on Monday, also disclosed that the Command recovered a vehicle earlier snatched at gunpoint from the ancient city of Zaria.

Jalige said most of the victims were residents of Udawa and Gadagi Baggi Villages, all in Chikun LGA while others were travellers from Lagos, Kano, Zamfara and Niger States.

He said, “On the 16th January, 2022 the Kaduna Police Command through Divisional Police Officer Buruku received information that some persons were sighted around Masallaci area along Birnin Gwari road who were suspected to be victims of kidnapping.

“On the strength of the report, the DPO immediately mobilized personnel on rescue mission to the area.

“On sighting the advancing troops the hoodlums took to their heels leaving behind sixteen (16) victims whom the Operatives successfully rescued.”

Jalige added that the success recorded by the Command was as a result of the corporation received from the community following information volunteered to the security agencies.
