The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, has charged media organisations to widen their reach for effective information dissemination.
Ukah gave the charge when he played host to the management of the Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA), Asaba, led by its General Manger, Mrs. Omolola Olorode.
Mr. Ukah stated that there were countless individuals and organisations outside of government in need of consuming media products, noting that when media organisations exhibit their value by thinking outside the box, they would profitably reap the benefits of their existence.
The Commissioner for Information said that the present down turn in the economy should be an impetus for every stakeholder to be proactive, stressing however that the State Government would not be deterred in its commitment to providing the needed support to NTA Asaba, even as he said every media house was important to his ministry.
“We will not stop supporting you. NTA, Asaba, has been very supportive to us just as other media houses are important to us. That is why we must remain friendly to all”, Mr Ukah remarked, adding, “As soon as things improve, we will look at how we can give you more support like we have been doing for other media houses.”
He called on media organisations to report the activities and programmes of the State Government truthfully and objectively, stating that the government of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had managed the scare resources in state efficiently and deserved to be reported accordingly.
The General Manager of NTA, Asaba, Mrs Olorode, thanked the Commissioner and the Ministry of Information for the support her station had received over time from the State Government.
Mrs. Olorode pleaded with the commissioner to facilitate an upward review of the monthly grant to the station, calling also for assistance in the provision of cameras.
She pledged to make her stay as General Manager memorable by giving unflinching support to the activities of the Ministry of Information in particular and the State Government in general.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Paul Osahor, and Media aides to the Commissioner and Directors were present during the visit, which featured the presentation of the latest edition of the Veracity Magazine of the ministry by the Commissioner to the General Manager and her management team.
