The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC says the former governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime was still being investigated by the commission for his role in the N450,000,000 (Four Hundred and Fifty Million Naira ) fraud linked to  Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 Campaign Fund.

The South East Zonal Head of the EFCC, Johnson Babalola made the disclosure at an interactive session with officials of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ)Enugu State Council, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of  Enugu Council of the body, Rex Chinweuba Arum at his office along Rangers Avenue, Enugu.

He stated.

Babalola explained Chime recently defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress which has fueled speculations that the Commission has closed its investigation on his role in the election fraud but Babalola “ Chime is still under investigation because the  Diezani and Nenadi ’s campaign fund case is still ongoing.” that the current commissioner for Tourism in Enugu State, Rita Mba, who was also fingered along with Chime and some others, is also under investigation just as she accused EFCC of compromising with Chime in the fraud saga.

Babalola who was accompanied on the visit by the Head of Public Affairs Department, Chris Oluka further revealed that a certain Kingsley Ubenyi, operator of an alleged Ponzi scheme called Ksley Mega Vision Limited is in EFCC custody following hundreds of petitions from victims of his nefarious business.

“We have to obtain a warrant to detain him because this man who has taken close to N6 Billion belonging to unsuspecting individuals, strolls to our office  every time wearing designers suits and shoes while his victims are wallowing in penury.”

He said a similar case involving Patrick Sanchi Nwokike of “Let’s Partner With You” fame was already in court and that all properties traced to him have been temporarily attached pending the conclusion of the case.

On why he was at the NUJ ‘s office, the Zonal Head said he recognised and appreciates the roles the mass media play in the fight against corruption especially the support extended to the Commission.

“You have proved to us that you are worthy partners in this work of ridding the country of corruption and we have come to say a big thank you and to ask for more.”

” We are not perfect as we are still humans and so are very open to constructive criticism and are ready for any meaningful engagement,” Babalola stressed.

Earlier while welcoming the Zonal Head, Arum said it was an honour to have him at the Council and assured of NUJ’s resolve to continue the mutually beneficial relationship between the Union and EFCC.

In attendance at the event was the Zonal Head, News Agency of Nigeria, Enugu, Felix Nwadioha, Secretary of South East NUJ Council, Ken Offorma amongst other journalist drawn from different print and electronic media outfits in Enugu.
