Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has charged nigerians to work towards the actualisation of the dreams of the country’s founding fathers of a united and indivisible entity.
He gave the charge on Monday at the occasion of the celebration of Nigeria’s independence anniversary at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium.
Governor Ugwuanyi who was represented by the state commissioner for education; Uchenna Eze who also took the salute during the march past parade by different schools in the state and various organisations said that for the first time since Nigeria’s independence, the country is experiencing true DEMOCRACY which guarantees total emancipation of the people from the shackles of poverty, political, economic and socio-cultural bondage.
He said the state government has initiated policies that have directly touched the lives of citizens including the introduction of Enugu state traders empowerment scheme, construction of federal and state government roads and a world class diagnostics hospital in Enugu among others.
Earlier in a welcome address, the chairman, post primary schools management board, PPSMB Nestor Ezeme advised Nigerians to be patriotic and shun all forms of criminal activities for a better Nigeria.
He also encouraged parents and schools to give children proper education so that they can take over from the present leaders and urged children to take their studies serious.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Enugu State Science, Technical And Vocational Schools Management Board, Obi Kama urged Nigerians to uphold selfless service and loyalty to constituted authority.
In a vote of thanks, permanent secretary to the state ministry of education, Nwanneka Onah, expressed her joy over the event and appreciated everyone and prayed god to continue to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.
In the match past, Union Boys Secondary School took 1st position, Osisa Tech Boys Sec School, 2nd position, while St. Patrick’s College, emerged 3rd in the boys’ category.
While in the girls’ category, Osisa Tech Girls Secondary School came first, Bethel Home Convent came second while Anglican Girls Grammar School came third.
In the category of mixed schools, Notre Dame Academy took first; Cyrich International Secondary School came second while coal camp secondary school came third.
And also in the primary schools category, Achara Layout came first while St Bartholomew school came second.
While in the category of Special Education Centres, Government Secondary School for Deaf and Dumb, Ogbete took first while Special Education Secondary School, Oji-River came second.
Highlight was presentation of trophies to winners in various categories.
