In his address, the GOC said the upgrade of the eye Centre sits well with the vision of the chief of army staff to ensure that personnel and their families access the best medical care within the Nigerian army medical facilities.
He said, the eye Centre will bring eye care services closer to personnel and families as well as members of the public at a reduced cost.
He assured that the Nigerian Army will continue to be committed to the health and welfare of troops.
“It is a common saying that health is wealth; you will agree with me that good eye sight is essential for a good healthy fulfilled life.
“The soldier is required to be able to see his enemy from afar, he who spots the enemy first has a great advantage, even in daily living poor sight makes usually routine activities very difficult.
“Unfortunately many of our personnel and their family members are suffering under the burden of poor vision due to conditions that can be corrected. Common among these are cataracts, glaucoma among others’’.
“Indeed, it is gratifying that this service is also being extended to members of the public, which will further cement our Civil-Military-Cooperation (CIMIC) activities.
“I therefore commend 82 Division Hospital for taking this bold and innovative step to establish the eye theatre and optical laboratory,’’ he said.
On her part, the chairperson of NAOWA 82 Division Chapter, Rasheedat Adegboye and wife of the GOC of the Division who inaugurated the 82 Division Hospital Baby Crèche said the establishment of a creche close to the medical facility will reduce the risk of exposing children to abuse and poor care from nannies.
A Consultant Optomologist, Dr. Nkiru Okoloagu said the Centre is equipped with optical shop and laboratory surgical instruments, operating microscope among other equipment.
The 82 Division band spiced up the occasion.
