The newly elected chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Enugu State Council, Mr. Emeke Igwesi, has described Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State as an amiable leader that has contributed immensely toward
the uplift of the union.
Mr. Igwesi made the commendatiogn on Friday at the Enugu State Government House during the inauguration of the body’s new executive council.
He stated that since the assumption of the present administration in the state under Governor Ugwuanyi, the state leadership has been striving to give the members a new lease of life.
“It perplexes me when the laudable efforts of His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi are being mentioned in the state and his noble contributions to the Legion are left out. His Excellency has performed
maximally in all spheres of life including in the welfare of the legionaries.
“I recall vividly at the last Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, the governor after his lofty deeds at Okpara Square hosted us bountifully at the Government House. This is unprecedented
in the history of the union in Enugu State,” the chairman noted, pledging the association’s commitment towards the realization of his noble objectives in the state.
Corroborating the statement, a former member who represented Nkanu East and West at the House of Representatives, Chief Uchenna Igwesi recalled with nostalgia the contributions of Governor Ugwuanyi during his stay in the House.
“The governor is a humble, transparent and selfless gentleman; so I am not surprised at his positive activities in Enugu State. That motivated me to accompany my younger brother, the new chairman of the
Nigerian Legion to Government House. As for 2019, he has no contender,” he said.
Responding, Governor Ugwuanyi described the contributions of the Legion towards the country’s unity as remarkable.
The governor who was represented by his deputy, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, commended “the immediate past executives for their contributions to the growth of the council during their tenure and more particularly,
for the many bold initiatives they embarked on towards improving the welfare of members”.
He urged the body’s new executive council to continue to protect their members’ interest and assured them of his administration’s continued support.
