Member, representing Nkanu East State Constituency, Hon. Paul Nnajiofor has assured the people of his constituency of effective and quality representation in his second term in office.

Nnajiofor gave the assurance at INEC pavilion in Enugu, after he received his certificate of return as House of Assembly member-elect in the just concluded House of Assembly election in the state.

He stated that he will bring his legislative experience garnered in the first term to bear to make laws that will bring about improvement in the lives of his constituents.

Gov. Ugwuanyi embarks on pre-contract inspection

He said “I am bringing experience of intense lobby, loyalty to the authority and legislative institutions and wisdom in following up your requests and lobbying”.

“Experience of cordial relationship with your colleagues. Over-sighting, legislation and representation that will also prompt me up to organize more town halls meetings for my people and engage my people in advocacy and consultation with the leaders and stakeholders to know the priority needs of my people”.

While describing his constituents of Nkanu East, as wonderful and ever supportive Nnajiofor, said “God will help me to use the experience of returning as a ranking member, to lobby more for the rural physical infrastructural development of our people, for empowerment, for skill acquisition, for advocacy, for community development, for peace and unity of our people. And to advance more on what we have done in the first four years. And also work with the state government”.

He said the next Assembly will sustain the cordial and working harmonious relationship between the executive and the legislature.

On insinuations that the Enugu State House of Assembly is a rubber stamp legislature as it had never had any scuffle with the executive, the lawmaker said “We are proud to be rubber stamp provided there will be peace in Enugu state. Even if it is inked stamped, everything lower than rubber, because peace is very important. The cost of peace is cheaper than the cost of trouble. And we are an arm of government; our job is to oversight, to represent not fight. And we cannot do that without cordial relationship with the executive. We must ensure we lobby during the budget call to get attention of the executive for our constituents. Trouble is not part of the mandate of a lawmaker. We have three cardinal functions, Legislation, representation and over-sighting”.

Enugu Polls: UPP, Nsukka People, others, congratulate Gov. Ugwuanyi

“Trouble is not part of it. So if you encouraging someone to go and make trouble, your constituency will lose, you as a member will lose, your people will lose. We are happy because the governor is a good governor, a super administrator, former three time member of the house of representative, so he knows the nitty-gritty of what it means to be a lawmaker and he respects the tenets of the legislature as an institution.

According to him, choosing leadership of the House will be done in an air of peace and conviviality.
