The Executive Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state on Communications, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe has denied media reports alleging that Governor Okowa was chased out of a function at Sapele by thugs loyal to the impeached Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Monday Igbuya.

A statement by Oghenesivbe maintained that no group of persons or thugs has the capacity to prevent Gov Okowa from performing his official responsibilities to the good people of Delta State and by extension the peace loving people of Sapele.

According to the report, published by several online platforms including SaharaReporters and UrhoboToday, thugs or supporters loyal to Rt Hon Monday Igbuya prevented the Executive Governor of Delta State from commissioning upgraded facilities at Sapele Technical College and other completed projects in Sapele, on May 16.

The Executive Assistant on Communications noted that as part of the activities lined up to mark Gov Okowa’s two years in office, he arrived Sapele to commission some projects and inspect work progress in some key ongoing projects.

While in Sapele, a handful of youths who described themselves as supporters of Rt Hon Monday Igbuya approached the governor and requested for the immediate reinstatement of Hon Igbuya as Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

The governor clearly and frankly told the aggrieved youths that as the head of the Executive arm of government he lacks the constitutional powers to interfere in the exclusive internal affairs of the House of Assembly.

He further explained that the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended; is clear on the division of powers and that the House Rules does not recognise the interference of the Governor or any member of his cabinet to mediate in the leadership crisis, if any, in the House.

Gov Okowa thereafter went about his normal official visit to the Sapele and Oghara axis. He commissioned the upgraded facilities at the Sapele Technical College which was in a sorry state when the SMART GOVERNOR came onboard in May 2015.

Governor Okowa paid a courtesy call on the Ovie of Oghara, HRM Oyibo Eshemitan, Orefe III, commissioned Ogaga Street, Sapele; the expanded Oghara Junction to Otefe Road and flagged off Ogwefe/Ugbenu Road respectively.

The Governor inspected progress work at the ongoing construction of Jesse Access Road Dualisation project, Ikoyo Avenue and the Tomatoes Cluster Farm at Amukpe, Sapele.

He was accompanied by His Excellency the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Barrister Kingsley Otuaro, the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborivwori, His Deputy, Rt Hon Friday Osanebi, HRM Orefe III, party chieftains, top government officials and some key members of his cabinet.

Latimore said, it is laughable for anyone to imagine or craft into prints that Gov Okowa, his team and fierce-looking security operatives drawn from various security agencies were chased out from Sapele or that the SMART GOVERNOR was prevented by youths who were agitating for the reinstatement of their elected representative, Rt Hon Monday Igbuya as Speaker of DTHA.

According to him, Governor Okowa has no constitutional powers and will not now or in the future interfere in the internal affairs of the Legislative arm of government. Impeachment is not new in Delta State and other states in Nigeria.

Gov Okowa and his SMART TEAM remains focused and total committed to the socioeconomic remodelling and development of the state and will not be distracted by sponsored hate comments, rumour peddling and cheap political propaganda against the Governor and his administration.
