The Enugu State Command, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has attributed successes recorded during the Christmas and New Year celebrations in Enugu state to effective collaboration with other security agencies in state.
The public relations officer, NSCDC, Enugu State Command, Denny-Manuel Iwuchukwu stated this on Wednesday while speaking with ESBS on operational strategies deployed by the command to curtail acts of criminality and other vices during the yuletide period.
Denny-Manuel Iwuchukwu disclosed that the command deployed about 428 personnel of the corps to flashpoints in the state as well as nine operational vans for patrol during the period.
He said the command was fully prepared to tackle upsurge in crime and criminality, chaotic traffic situation as well as increase in fire disaster usually associated with festive periods and described this yuletide as one of the most peaceful.
“Before the Christmas, the commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence. Enugu State Command, Valentine Afrika did addressed the press and itemized our level of preparedness towards ensuring free celebration during the yuletide period. You could remember, he informed the press that we will have about 428 personnel earmarked for the operation, with about nine operational vans ready to patrol the states within the period”.
“And this is exactly what we did, knowing fully well that yuletide period like this comes with tripartite problems, or condition or challenges, three different challenges one upsurge in crime and criminality within the period. Secondly, chaotic traffic situation at various points and places in the state, and thirdly, increase in fire disaster as occasioned by Hamarttan season.
“And these are the three points where the commandant addressed the press as per the strategy we mapped out to handle the situation during the period. And this is exactly what we did. And all the flash points within the state were marked and properly taken care of to make sure that hoodlums did not operate in Enugu, even if they operate, they will not escape.
“And by the grace of God, this yuletide is one of the most peaceful, we’ve had in recent times. There are no much problems, where there are problems, they are minor problems, and they were taken care of. We can say that the operation was so successful, because all the security agencies worked together, including neighborhood watch, forest guard and the rest of them, even MOT in controlling the traffic, the police, the Road Safety, the Civil Defense Corps, all of us work together to make sure that Enugu is secured and remain secured within the period.
