The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Enugu State Command, says it has trained over 200 officers of the corps on arms handling to perfect their marksmanship and improve their efficiency in service delivery.
The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Steve Amoga disclosed this while speaking on efforts of the command during the yuletide period to protect critical infrastructures of government in the state.
He said the training which is one policy thrust of the corps will make NSCDC personnel efficient in the use of the gun.
“It is the area of training and retraining which we harped on so much. As a policy the corps do quarterly training and retraining to perfect the marksmanship of our personnel and improve their efficiency in delivery”.
“We do that and it was very successful. We pride ourselves to have done that, we did four trainings within the year and we met our target”.
“At each point we have gotten no less than two hundred personnel to perfect their marksmanship and make sure that they are very efficient in the use of the gun”.
Amoga who said the command did not record any illegal diversion of petroleum or make any arrest, it collaborated with other agencies including the State Fire Service, State Emergency Management Agency to respondent to major disasters in the state which help mitigate the impact of such disasters may have caused.
“It is our normal duty to forestall adulteration of products being ferried across the territory within our area of responsibility. We will be happy to say traffic in general during the yuletide was very low. As per haulage, the PENGASSON and NUPENG most of them are on holiday, so the lifting activities was actually stalled. It was not much as we normally encounter”.
“We cooperated with NEMA, SEMA and of course the fire service and road safety corps and the police, to make sure infernos that normally occur during the harmattan period curtailed. We have a couple of them that were reported timely to make sure the damage was not colossal as it should be, because of our intervention. We have a good synergy”. He said.
The commandant advised NSCDC officials to always remain civil while dealing with members of the public and be professionally responsive while discharging their responsibilities.
“They should make sure that they keep doing what they are doing right. They should not be compromised. They should be professional in their dealings with people”.
“ We are civil defense. We don’t use force or coercion to beat anybody down. We are civil in our approach and they should maintain civility in their approach to civilians to make sure we are truly the custodians to civilians and their rights and therefore their number one upkeep is our concern”.
