The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has warned dealers on bad petroleum products and vandals of pipelines to shun the acts as they are capable of sabotaging the nation’s economy.
The new Commandant, NSCDC, Chinwe Kannu gave the warning when she paid a courtesy call on the management of Enugu state broadcasting service, ESBS on Tuesday.
The visit of the new commandant to the Enugu State Broadcasting Service relieved beautiful memories of old as she vividly recalled her days in the old Anambra Television as a producer and presenter of women and children’s programmes.
She said she was in esbs to solicit the stations support to sensitize the people of the activities of the NSCDC, in Enugu.
According to her, the mandate of the corps also includes disaster management, registration and training of private security guards among others.
Kannu described the just concluded elections in Enugu as peaceful and pledged to carry on the legacy left behind by her predecessor.
“Apart from security of lives and property is every security agencies is involved. We are into disaster management, pipeline anti vandalism, all dealers of bad petroleum products should either plays by the rules and stop bringing in bad products or mixing them outside or within Enugu or better still leave Enugu and the metropolis for us. Because we can’t tolerate that any longer”.
“Engines, vehicles are knocking giving problems here and there, people getting burnt even losing lives just because of profits. It can’t be taken any longer”.
“When we come to disaster management before disaster comes , we could see ahead of time to preempt it, if it does happen once in awhile, evacuation is part of our business , we condoned off and evacuate so more people will not come into the danger zone while we evacuate those in the danger zone, that’s part of our duty”.
“Railways, dams have been given to Civil Defense. We can’t be everywhere but we are into so many sorts now. The moment the oil enters the pipelines for distribution it has become our work, we guard the pipelines, and we look out for the vehicles carrying the oil. You know that even trans-loading is an offense, so if you see a tanker packed trans-loading into another vehicle, do call us, is part of our duty. Sometimes that’s the opportunity they usually use to do the mixing”.
