The Sun newspapers has tendered an unreserved apology to Enugu state Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for erroneously stating that Ugwuanyi is vehemently opposed to the choice of former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, as running mate to PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
THE said report also quoted Ugwunayi as vowing to work for President Muhammadu Buhari in the presidential election next year.
The story, which has been deleted from its online platform is entitled “Why South East govs, leaders moved against Obi as Atiku’s vice,” and was published in its sister publication, Sunday Sun.
Sun stated that its reporter who filed the story lacked the facts as the Enugu State governor never issued the threat ascribed to him.

While retracting the said report, Sunday editor of The Sun regretted the embarrassment the wrong representation may have caused the governor.

‘Ugwuanyi not against Obi’
“In our story, “Why South East govs, leaders moved against Obi as Atiku’s vice,” published in our sister publication, Sunday Sun, we erroneously stated that Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is vehemently opposed to the choice of former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, as running mate to PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, that he vowed to work for President Muhammadu Buhari in the presidential election next year”.
“We have discovered that our reporter did not get his facts right. The Enugu State governor never issued the threat ascribed to him”.
“We, therefore, apologise to Gov Ugwuanyi for the embarrassment the wrong representation may have caused him”.
